Biography

Cath brings a unique combination of insights from the worlds of Olympic sport and international diplomacy to support her work with teams and leaders in organizations wanting to explore how to raise performance whilst supporting colleagues to thrive. Her facilitation, coaching and consultancy work focuses on developing teams and leaders with a strong emphasis on performance, motivation and culture. Cath also runs specialist programmes and workshops on resilience, women’s leadership and inclusion in the workplace. Clients include professional services firms and a range of organizations across business, sport and the public sector. A Visiting Professor at the Surrey University Business School, Cath also teaches on Executive Education programmes at the Judge Business School, Cambridge University. Cath studied Modern Languages at Pembroke College, Cambridge University, holds an MPhil in International Politics from the University of Wales and a PhD in German from the University of Reading. Cath is an executive coach and advisor to the non-profit organisation The True Athlete Project which supports the development of positive sporting environments. Cath lives in London, UK and appears in interviews on the BBC and the broader media as a sports and leadership expert, and writes in the media on topics of sporting and business culture. Her first book, ‘The Long Win: The Search for a better way to succeed’ is published in October 2020.

Background

  • British Olympic rower for 10 years, winning the 2003 World Championships and 2004 Olympic silver. Remains connected to the high performance sporting world, advising and supporting the development of sporting cultures where athletes, coaches and all involved can thrive on and off the field of play.
  • British Diplomat for 12 years, working in policy and negotiations for the British government, leading on the UK response to conflict issues globally. With postings to Bosnia & Iraq, Cath specialized in stabilisation policy in conflict-affected states.
  • Business coach, consultant & facilitator working with organizations and teaching on Executive Education programmes at business schools and speaking at corporate events around the world.
  • Recent work included designing and leading a 9-month leadership programme with a global construction company; coaching female senior leaders of an international professional services company; designing a series of inclusive leadership workshops for the senior leadership team of an international company.
